Instead of giving Christmas gifts this year, I have donated to Refuge to provide emergency accommodation parcels to women and children who need to escape domestic abuse this Christmas.
A number of businesses are publishing their diversity and inclusion reports. This should be an opportunity for transparency not only on the progress you have been making, but also some honesty about where you can do better. Sir Robert McAlpine's first inclusion report has that balance.
Sometimes it feels that technical people are moved into managerial roles because that is the next step. But with research showing most people leave managers not companies, the case for upskilling your technical people to be good managers is clear.
I was pleased to judge the RIBA's Nottingham and Derby Women in Architecture Student Awards 2021 with a theme of inclusive placemaking. The winners addressed a women's refuge from domestic violence, and loneliness in older age. Well done both.
